The new Nick Cave album is brilliant and here is the new single
featuring some of the tracks from it and one track that isn’t
on it. The title track “he wants you” is a sweet flowing ballad
with plenty of great crooning and great laid back musicianship.
“Everything must converge” is like a 50’s jukebox song with some
lovely oohs and aahs from the backing singers.
“Babe I’m on fire” sounds amazing on the cd, the pure length of
the track (I think it clocks in at about 15 minutes!) forces
the listener to really take in the sarcastic sneer of Cave and
the more brutal Birthday Party-esque musical attack. It’s cool
to see Nick Cave playing stuff like he used to even though I
have come to prefer his more melodic tracks. The fact that this
is an edit is great too as the original is a bit of an arse to
tape for people as it takes up too much room.
The real gem though is the rework of “Little ghost song” which
is fucking fantastic. The pianos in this track are so beautiful
I cannot compare it to anything without sounding like an idiot.
This is well worth picking up, buy loads so they get to number
one in the charts!
