Firstly I have to mention the amazing packaging: its beautiful. A picture embossed on green fabric and really hard card, no wonder this was pretty expensive!
This record really surprised me, I was taken aback a bit as to how easily I got along with it. I was quite dubious before I played it as I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but after reading mags like Wire and Vice sing their praises (whos opinions I mostly trust) I really wanted to check it out.
The NNBB could be associated with Jackie O Motherfucker, they are both big bands doing something new whilst remembering bands of late that everyone has either forgotten about or never knew about in the first place. At times Im reminded of the most recent Black Dice full length as well albeit less noisy.
They are however a lot more rhythmic than Jackie O and there is a much bigger jazz influence and less droning parts. This full length is made up of mostly progressive noisy jazz tracks with the off Kraut and even world influence at times. I can imagine this being on Alien8 records along with Tanakh and the Shalibi effect.
The 7″ that comes with it is much more of the same but a lot more percussion orientated.
Certainly a good record to put on when either reading inside when its raining or when smoking a massive bifter. This is a very, very good record.
