Notaword - Crossland - 7

Labels: Communication Recordings
Review by: Andy Malcolm

I am a happy kid now, as I have heard some emo rock done with some life and that special spark that seems to be missing from the new breed that Emo Diaries 3 foisted upon an unsuspecting public. Because the b-side here, “Insert Apology Here” is super good. It’s a song of two halves. The first, cute indie that bounce a long a bit like the Promise Ring, then onto the more rocking 2nd half that really hits the right spot in a sort of fast, Get Up Kids style indie-pop-punk fashion, as the song surges to the finishing post.

The a-side track is “Crossland”, and it’s not as exciting as it’s sister track that lies just a couple of milimeters away on the other side. Unspectacular indie rock really, that is bland for a while, until it somehow discovers some life right near the end. Wish it was a little better, then I’d be even more excited about Notaword.

Chunky white vinyl, and lovely lovely packaging if you like it like that.
