Ohm - The Black River - 7

I am pretty sure I only like this because I have long hair and a beard. Although nowhere near as long hair as the dude on the cover. This is some weird shit instrumental prog-rock with beepy keyboards too. I can totally see these guys stroking their beards and rocking out whilst playing these worryingly enjoyable tunes. The keyboard parts are kind of pulsey and phat like the Faint used to have, but please ignore that as a general comparison as this is not new-wave or anything at all like that. It’s also a bit too lightweight to sound like drugs were involved, which is a little surprising as that is what I was expecting having seen some descriptions and the record cover. A little more heaviness would definitely help, but I expect that they just didn’t have any money for production and so this was how it ended up. There are three tracks in all and it’s decent throughout. On the last track they have some bad-ass guitar parts, but it still sounds a little flimsy when it should sound immense and fill my headphones.

I think this is a good fun effort, but there is room for improvement. Orange vinyl and two dudes from the Jam Session involved! BEARDS.
