Paint it Black is the latest band from former Lifetime / Kid Dynamite guitarist Dan Yemin, and as those bands were pretty influential to quite a wide spectrum of punk kids over the years (does anyone really not like Lifetime?) this had quite a lot to live up to for many.
One of the biggest changes is that Dan is now on vocals rather than guitar, which he does abley if not remarkably. His voice really reminds me of someone else but I can’t place who, whatever, I guess it sort of suits the music more anyway, which is more Kid Dynamite-y, (though I don’t really like to sit here and compare it exclusively to his former bands as they’d no doubt find that pretty irritating!), decent no nonsense punk rock, it just needs that guy from Phoenix Nights to shout “‘ave it!” over the top occasionally to make it whole. Some great funny song titles too that aren’t too “look at us, arent we wacky!!” in that post Drowningman way that is cool at the minute. Bonus.
All in all I quite like this, it won’t be revered like Lifetime but it certainly doesn’t damage Yemin’s rep either.
Good show
