The four people who make up Pep Squad, by the looks of it, are the most normal people you could ever meet. Which is pretty cool. And their album title is spelled the same if you read it forwards or backwards. Also pretty cool.
I guess if you like US indie music, or if you like the Pixies then you might be tempted by Pep Squad. Songs like ‘Wild Pack’ give rise to the Pixies references with the screaming vocals and nice clugging guitar work. Other songs are more mellow (and boring) while ‘Friend or Foe’ calls on some trumpets to spruce up the sound. A couple of tracks are even slightly electronic in nature.
BUT! While a couple of the tracks are actually quite good – at least three songs are truly dreadful. And the rest of the album is just mediocre through and through…. Not a big success.
