Pesky - An Effort To Do Good - CD (2003)

Labels: Closed System
Review by: Tom Sloan

Pesky sound like they can pen a decent tune. However, unfortunately, their sound on this c.d. doesn’t really work for me. The song writing sounds like it was all done on an acoustic guitar, specifically for that style of performance. So when the guitars are plugged in and put on the clean channel, it is almost an unnecessary embellishment for the songs that sound rooted to that “˜unplugged’ feel. That’s my impression of it, anyway.
I would probably enjoy Pesky a hell of a lot more if either: 1) they just stripped their songs right down to acoustic guitars and vocals, or 2) they made a bit more of an effort with the instrumentation, heading towards a bright, promise ring-y sort of direction. If it’s any solace, i get the feeling they could be capable of doing both fairly well.
