Punish the Atom - demo - CDR (2002)

Hmm! This local (very local to me!) punk band play fuzzy noisy late 70s / 80s new wave influenced punk rock. Joey (the singer) sounds like a deranged Chris Thompson (Monorchid/Skull Kontrol) fighting it out with that bloke from Ikara Colt. The drums seem to really hold it together, they pound away like crazy and he’s got some good drum fills on it. The guitars are what keep it so noisy, with them having three guitars theres a lot of noisy feedback and distortion. The first track “I can’t remember the last time my brain stopped working” builds and builds over a nice melodic guitar piece until what sounds like the whole band are screaming along. The second track starts off pretty evil, if it had a keyboard on it it could be on GSL for sure. It’s got this well big bassline and awesome Shellac-y drums. The mental way it seems all thrown together really reminds me of the Liars album as well. The last rack is pretty boss too, reminds me a lot of the Fall with some real Jesus Lizard guitar parts. You should get this demo, it’s cracking.
