Radio 4 - s/t - 7

Labels: Gern Blandsten
Review by: Andy Malcolm

There’s an ex-member of Garden Variety knocking around in this new Gern Blandsten band who have rather cooly named themselves after the great radio institution that is numero 4. No samples of anyone reading out shipping forecasts (“Dogger, 6 to 8, Severe gale”) or cricket commentary though, alas. Just dated sounding poppy rock, like some 7″ single that went missing during the late 60s only to get a reissue 30 years down the line. I don’t really know what to say otherwise. There’s a bit of Bowie in the rather long and aptly named b-side, “The Program Repeats”, but that’s just the chorus part.

Not my thing really, and probably the direction that the Gern is moving in with regards to putting out records. Oh well.
