Ramesses II - Master (Your Demons) - 7

Labels: Shifty
Review by: Alex Deller

Following on down that uncertain trail blazed by Electric Wizard, Ramesses II swaddle themselves in a cocoon of smoke, fuzz and lysergic claustrophobia so dense it all but engulfs their attempts at music-making. It’s a dissonant, fucked up mess, staggering between riffs and disorientated roars on what seems like a random basis, their trajectory apparently guided more by what they found to stuff in the communal pipe that morning than any lucid musical vision or cunning master plan. Amazingly enough the damn thing works, and while these two tracks hardly constitute a replacement Dopethrone or Supercoven there remains the hope that out of the next glorious muddle could creep another work of supreme – if slightly dazed – genius.
