Oooooh. I didn’t get this crazy assed hardcore until recently, but I’m glad I do now. Basically, Reversal of Man have a dude shrieking at a high pitch and real full on into the microphone (I read that for live shows, he has to tape the damn thing to his hands), screeching out some pretty personal words, whilst the band play chaotic and erratic hardcore behind him. Quickly. I guess that this is screamo taken to the next degree. Actually, sometimes they go slower. Otherwise the drummer would expire. The dual guitars are just awesome. Sometimes everything is just so crushing and brutal, sometimes everything spirals off a long some mad guitar line, sometimes they actually have parts that hint at being sane.
This is such a DIY release, and so beautifully done too. There isn’t a lyric sheet as such, more a thickish ‘zine / booklet with pieces on stuff that is important to the band and some of their friends. The booklets main focus / philosophy appears to be: be a kid, and care about your friends. And the various writers put that into words in really good ways. Ideals worth subscribing to. There is also cover of a Minor Threat song, “Look Back And Laugh”, which covers some of this stuff. I think this is probably the only Minor Threat cover I’ve heard that is actually better than the original, though they haven’t changed it that much and the vocals are done in a more ‘sensible’ style than the rest of their stuff.
To sum up, get it. I think Ian would be scared of this record.
