Rocket from the Crypt - RFTC - CD (1998)

Labels: Interscope
Review by: Russell Opie

My musical tastes are completely confused and even a trifle lost. While a continue to tread Punk Street and its side alleyways: pop-punk, punk-rock and ska-punk, I have recently been shown the way to Emo Avenue. But this album sends me fleeing down Rock n’ Roll Road.

This album is such a great listen. Blissful rock n roll for the nice person hiding within you. The production on this album is just supreme. A rich deep sound add a majestic feel to this epic “big-sounding” album. The band consists of six regular members which gives us 4 vocalists, a sax and a trumpet, plus the obligatory bass and guitar. Lead vocalist “Speedo” has a very distinct and romatic style that adds such a good vibe to the whole experience. And with the additional vocalists offering superb backing, this is an album to be treasured.

As for songs, well there is not one duff track. I should once again emphasise how incredibly rich the sound production is. Truly impressive. Stand out tracks include “Break It Up” which has a really nice chorus and wicked vocals. Meanwhile “Eye On You” and “Lipstick” are more retro rock n roll and are just plain awesome. “Dick On A Dog” is also unfeasibly cool, but in a slighty more punky way. In reality every single song is top notch and they all have those big bad guitar riffs, as well as a funky brass section. And you seriously need to check out the lyrics.

For the rocker inside of you, you need to own this. This album is just incredible, and as far as I am concerned it cannot come anymore highly recommended. Don’t be put off by the rock n roll tag that I have slapped them with, because I am sure you will adore this album. Buy it, and see how right I am.
