Saved By Zero - demo - CDR (2005)

Labels: self released
Review by: Joe Caithness

So after spotting this band on the forum, I decieded I would be nice and give their demo a bit of distro action. This is plain and simple raw sassy stuff, raw enough to be punky, but sassy enough to shake your hips. The band states influences such as Orchid (I’m guessing the last lp…) and Racebannon, but they compile that chaos, on this demo at least, into more rock n roll song structures. Guitar wise, I realise its the biggest cliche in post punk circuits at the moment, but they also state jazz/blues artists such as Robert Johnson and Erick Truffaz as influences. But all this said, it works, and its a neat little demo. Properly made artwork, no art on the actual cdr which is a shame, but hey its a demo. Lyric wise, it’s pretty abstract stuff, speaking to a member of the band he told me it’s mainly about religion, in quite a complex way which I’m still trying to understand!

But yeh all the same this is a strong demo, it’s one of those “this is the demo we made before we found our feet” type things and in that case, I’ll be happy to see what they come up with next!
