Schematic Of A Waking Life - Cinders and Seeds - CD (2004)

Labels: Bug Empire
Review by: Alex Deller

Schematic Of A Waking life sound like a band torn half way between their Off Minor records and their Light The Fuse And Run ones. The oozing, jazzy, post Saetia-isms of the first band sit snugly alongside the barrelling melodies and all-or-nothing energy of the latter, like a desperate fight for life accompanied by all the ragged yells of defiance you’d expect. The four songs question words left unsaid, personal failings and a sense of how easy it is to let life pass you by. Everything is in place and as it should be. The constituent parts make for a promising concoction. What surpasses all expectations is the delivery “” the way the songs explode into life, crackling across the skyline with mesmerising intensity and leaving the listener as tense and breathless as the band themselves sound, panting, hands on haunches, catching breath before another guitar line snakes its way around the base of your spine and twists all the right nerve endings once again. Earnest, vibrant and shockingly alive.
