Finally, after 3 years, they’re back. And gracing us with an EP. Notice how majority these “emo” bands, when they release a cdep, it comes in the form of a booklet? Annoying. What’s worse is there’s no lyrics but just a “bunch” of “emo” photos of the sky and traffic and oh, look, someone playing guitar. Wow. And might I add. All the words are in lowercase too.
But lyrics aren’t as important because you can actually hear what Jonathan Bunch is singing about. Unlike some real estate bands who try a bit too hard.
If you’ve not heard much of Sense Field’s earlier works and expecting more clones of tracks on ‘Building’, be prepared to be slightly disappointed. Sense Field have progressed yet still retaining their sound. Starts off with ‘one more time around’ (a highly appropriate song title) that are in the veins of faster tracks from ‘Killed For Less’. Rockin on till ‘part of the deal’ and then it all slows down to the 3rd track which at one second reminds me of Sneaker Pimps’ ‘six feet underground’. Well, in the way Bunch sings it. But he gets away with it at the chorus when he sort of pleads about ‘open heart surgery’. It gets a bit mellow with ‘all ships at sea’ but you can still hear the slight charging drumming and drum rolls in the background. And just when I thought it’d die off slowly, ‘every reason’ barges in. And for the ‘Building’ fans, this is more like it. A combination of ‘building’ and ‘fiesta’. Very rock.
Even if you’re not a huge Sense Field fan (like me), it’s still a recommendation. For varied sounds and heartfelt songs. I’ll be patiently waiting for their full length.
