This is a pop single and there is genius in its simplicity.
Servo play their sugar tinged, fuzzy indie-pop with emo-pop influences. It’s bob your head from side to side time with a happy smile on your face. Vocalist, Carolyn is still aging inversely, and probably the main reason why they always sound good. Basically they sound like um, yeah. Leatherface and Hooton 3 Car riffs played on pop songs vaguely similar to a simpler, early Discount. Quite. “Another Time” is the faster of the two tracks, and probably the better. Rock on.
Pear of the West are more of the same, via Japan. If you’ve heard and liked Cigaretteman then you’ll really appreciate these. “All Unfit” is pacey and poppy and loveable. Mainly vocalised by a girl, they get some backups from a boy, and play relatively quickly. Tap that toe! Now the other one! “Get Out Of Sight” has a nice chuggy riff to get going and then laces it with saccharine for a mighty fine blend.
I guess your fondness for this record will rely on whether you can handle the squeaky, slightly cartoon-ish vocals of both bands. Me? Gimme cartoons like these any day.
