Sharks and Minnows - Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board - CD (2002)

Labels: Two Sheds
Review by: Martin Brown

Sharks and Minnows are an unspectacular, yet clearly embryonic indie-rock band. Their influences clearly dwell somewhere between Husker Du, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker and Rites of Spring. Diverse and formidable these authorities may be, fusing them is a tough job, and often Sharks and Minnows don’t quite pull it off on this record. However, I’m sure there are a lot of good things to come from this band, and if they’re as tight as I suspect they are live (they’ve played with Hey Mercedes, The Alkaline Trio and The Dismemberment Plan to name but a few) they’re worth checking out in the flesh if you’re ever America-way. If you like The Miracle of 86, you’ll at least like, possibly even love this. One to watch for sure.
