I dug their debut LP, “The Other Palm Springs” as it’s the kind of album you’ll dig out every time on certain days. You know, the summery days where you’re stuck indoors and you don’t want anything too challenging, just nice ‘n’ pleasant jangly indie.
And nothing too radically different on this little record either. “Tribute To The Phonecalls” is a track from their second album, and a solid little number it is too. A little more upbeat and bouncy than than before, it’s still hardly fast or hard or anything! Nicely played, mid-paced boy fronted indie pop, with additional keyboards. You could hear it on the radio, that’s how nice it is. Yeah, this is good, apart from the slightly dodgy guitar solo that luckily ends quite quickly.
The other side is a Cure cover, with lots of jangles, a Promise Ring reminiscent persistent rhythm, and some spacey keyboards in the background. The song is “In Between Days”, which I did remember once they started playing it, and poppy and good it is too. Like it.
Quality little record, enough to tempt me to get the second LP if I ever see it available.
