Sir - The Night I Met My Second Wife - LP (2002)

Labels: Pehr
Review by: Chris Bress

This was a pleasant surprise! Slow rock, similar to all your slo-core favourites like Red House Painters, Low, Codeine, Black Heart Procession, Bedhead etc. It strays from your typical slow-mo rock though as it has almost triphop parts (like on the second track), these bits really bring to mind Portishead I guess as well as the songs with remote beats on the first Papa M Lp or even a slower Pinback. This has sleepy female vocals which are perfect.

It took me a load of listens to get into this. I knew it would. Records like this always take me a while to get into, I think you just really need to be in the mood. Its got a real warm, smooth feeling to it.

I might listen to Three Mile Pilot or the Red House Painters (or even some of Current 93s records) instead of this band though, not that they are terribly similar, its just for sad, depressing rock based music I think they are my favourites.

All in all this is a really good post dinner party record, when there’s just you and a lady there and you’ve had a few wines!
