Snails - Pins And Needles / Knot Wrong - 7

Labels: Learning Curve
Review by: Kunal Nandi

Snails are an ace noise-grunge power trio featuring two guys from Guzzard, who were an ace noise-grunge power trio from the early nineties. So there’s no real musical development from the blueprint laid down on “In Utero”. But that’s hardly a criticism, as “In Utero” was/is fucking brilliant, and so are the two songs on this seven-inch.

Too often, tuneful rock bands end up falling between two stools: they make a loud noise without a decent, memorable tune to back it up with, or they come off being insipid and boring. Few bands can successfully weld the two together, but Snails really do pull it off with aplomb, effectively and effortlessly experimenting with song structure along the way, wielding melodies that are menacing yet instantly memorable. This rocks. Pick it up immediately.

Oh yeah – the label this came out on was formed from the ashes of hardcore pioneers Amphetamine Reptile, and they have a ton of good shit out already. Go!
