Why do so many bands of this ilk find it so difficult to come up with decent artwork? Do they blow the cash given to them for such purposes on herbs and potions, thinking they’ll be able to cobble something together for a fraction of the price? Or is it a case of agreeing to some cackhanded shite when in a state of chemical euphoria? I can just imagine Wino and chums slumped around their munchie-strewn den, dope smoke thick in the air, being handed this pre-school too-crap-for-the-refrigerator calamity: they ooh and ahh, and a decision is made, that, yes indeed, the idea of a celestial longboat journeying through a black hole is, uhh, kinda cool.
Anyhoo, sleeve aside this is a fair whack better than their earlier ‘Jug Fulla Sun’ full-length, which might’ve had the illustrious Dan Higgs provding the cover art but conversely failed to wet my whistle. Riffs are hot outta the Sabbath songbook and Wino’s vocals soar majestically, things peaking with the really rather fabulous ‘Sun Stoned’ which might just be this band’s best cut yet. There’s lots of rock, lots of soul and a healthy scoop of guitar wank that far too many bands fail to pull off. Heavy, awesome and very much recommended.
