Starmarket - Sunday's Worst Enemy - CD (1999)

Labels: Pop Kid
Review by: Ian Cavell

There was some press blurb that came with this CD : “over two hundred promotional copies are being sent out to key radio stations, zines, and retail locations”. Collective a “key zine”? Don’t make me laugh…

Anyway – this is an older Starmarket album recorded back in October 96. I guess it may have seen the light of day on another label but this one is now being pushed by PopKid. Unfortunately it doesn’t quite match the quality of the Stayin Cool 2×7″ (also on Pop Kid) but then that little package is something else altogether. What it does do, however, is release 14 cracking pop songs out into the world all of which are molded in Starmarket’s very own (and very unique) style. Not quite punk but definitely aggressive in the delivery its nice to hear a band that doesn’t sound like 10 million others. Songs such as ‘Unsaid’ and ‘Your Style’ impressed me the most but, you know, there isn’t one song here that sent me reaching for the remote… actually there were several but that’s only because I wanted to listen to them again.

I’d recommend this whole heartily – its an excellent release.
