This is some pretty solid emo rock here from these UK kids, though I’ve gotta say that band name just fell off into the chasm signposted “Emo Cheese”. Musically, they are mid-paced and uncomplicated, but quite different from most UK bands springing up in this style. First of all they have the gruff dual vocals, no prizes for guessing the influence there, though I’d suggest that musically they were a lot more like another band linked with HWM, the Blacktop Cadence, as things are slower and they get the twinkle on a lot more. Other obvious influence is Spy vs Spy, evident in the time changes and that stop-start guitar sound that so many bands employ these days. Sound quality is fairly solid and clean, though they could do with some production to get it sounding a bit fuller. Also impressive was the fact that they weren’t scared to go out and write some longer songs, “A Year And 3 Days” clocks in at nearly 6 minutes, and “Spelt Out In Bright Lights” at almost 7!
As it is, they are doing pretty well, it didn’t blow me away, but they certainly don’t fall into the trap of being generic, that’s for sure, which earns serious points from me. So yeah, nice one, check this out if you’re in the UK and want to hear an interesting new band.
