Two bands on here that I was unfamiliar with before the first time I span it. And first up is Step Softly, Ghost. I really like this song a lot, musically
and structurally I hear a mid 90’s emo thing going on, and they also throw some cello into the mix. Where it differs though is with the vocals, they have a
couple of guys singing and it works brilliantly. No screams, no crying, just these harmonies. And they aren’t slick or cutesy, they just work. Later on the
song builds up and they get some louder singing going, like Mag’s parts in Yaphet Kotto. This is an epic track that fills it’s entire side of the vinyl, the
recording is a little raw, but I like it a lot. These guys should do some more stuff. They’ve probably already split though.
Fall on Deaf Years do the b-side, and they play two tracks of angry and frantic screamo that they splice a bit of metal into along with a token emo
breakdown. It’s not really quite so my thing these days, but they do an ok job with the style. It’s mostly fast and has those familiar harsh and distorted
vocals.
