Man this has fucking weird production. It sounds like my ears are full of wax. Maybe they actually are. Either way, my crappy little PC speakers are making it sound like a rumble. Symmetry start up playing very uninspired, melodic post-hardcore that was quite popular a couple of years ago, i.e. they sound like Hundred Reasons. Chuggy guitars, occasional screams, mid-paced bits and slower bits. The first song has these really silly bits where it chugs left – right – left – right. Annoying. They also have 2 really over-long songs. Some young whippersnapper reviewer will probably say its “prog” or something, because their Dad had a record with long songs on it, which he always described as prog. Tedious wank. The third song is a 4 minute acoustic guitar instrumental. Presumably someone in the band’s Dad had a Fahey record or something. The final song is 9 minutes, and I think it is also an instrumental because I have clicked at 15 random points of the song on my media player and none of them have vocals.
The piece of paper tells me they formed in 2000 and that this is their debut EP. If they took 5 odd years to get to be this boring, then man, someone should probably have given them a nudge at some point before now. The piece of paper also says “from the tumultous and oppressive maelstrom of bleak ruination through the cerulean tranquility of calm to the pale vistas of yada yada yada”, I think we can assume that someone needs to read some books other those that have no discernable story. Which, technically, includes a thesaurus.
