Takaru were a band who gave you the impression they were fucking bulletproof. Impervious to assault and fuelled by molten anger they towered above most bands playing allegedly ‘brutal’ hardcore and reaped them in half with a merciless iron claw. Similar in sound to the likes of Acme, Shikari and Unruh they created an unstoppable juggernaut of metallic fury that mixed boiling rage, bedraggled hope and a sharp intellect, leaving you thinking that with this coupling of conviction and unbridled power they should’ve been able to set the world to rights. Combining searing riffs, bass guitar that could grind bones to powder and a voice that sounds like it has soaked for a week in a bathtub full of acid, nigh on everything about this record’s twenty minutes is perfect – a gripping and extremely punishing testament to a thoroughly amazing band.
