Gloomy title huh? And some lovely music to go with it. The Aasee lake have two contrasting songs on this record, side a has a gently swaying, light jazzy instrumental number. Very much similar to the songs off the last Karate album. I keep expecting Geoff’s distinctive vocals to penetrate the mood, but nope. Aasee strum away. This song is like sitting and staring across a field on a baking hot and hazy summers day. Relaxing.
Side two has softly sung vocals buried just under the surface of some beautiful tunery. Guitars are persistent, looping around in circles, alternately soothing then breaking into more striking sections. Reminds me of the Van Pelt, both in sound and also in being that sort of unclassifiable music. Just intelligently woven, and well thought out. They even have a screamy part at the end.
