The Cassettes - O'er The Mountain - CD (2003)

Labels: Alice
Review by: Andy Malcolm

This is a nice little album containing 10 songs of a variety of interlinked styles. I don’t really know anything about the band or nuffink, but I do enjoy the music that they have made on here. It varies from the Americana country of opener “œJune Bogs” and it’s distinctive guitar work (um, like if Iron & Wine rocked out “” I really am not good at writing about this kind of music), to a more standard retro, Beatles-y indie rock fare, where they let loose with the guitars, melodies and harmonies in a fun way, especially on songs like the catchy “œThis Will Pass”.

I don’t really know what else to say on this CD! Which seems quite pathetic I guess doesn’t it. My excuse is that I am ill. Ok, this is a decent record although not something that I could see myself coming back to over and over, but I always appreciate it when I listen. Oh yeah, the band are ex-Frodus for those who like to know that kind of thing.
