The Constantines - Shine A Light - LP (2004)

Labels: Sub Pop
Review by: Chris Bress

Apparently this band are massive! Pretty weird considering they are actually pretty fucking good. The Constantines are a really good rock band who sound like a great big mix of lots of great bands (Murder City devils, Drive Like Jehu, the Convocation Of) but they still get compared to the Boss (Springsteen – as if you didn’t know!).

The first track is a crazy Jehu/Hot Snakes style punk number, with brutal drumming, snarly punk vocals and it is at just the right speed to dance too. Some of the slower tracks blend really good emo (post Indian Summer – I guess similar to the rockier Braid material) with hard rock and they sound amazing.

This is a really good record – good on Sub Pop, a label so on form at the moment (apart from their distribution – where is the Wolf Eyes record??) it hurts.
