The Convocation Of - s/t - LP (2001)

ARGH! This is just sooo UNFAIR! I *only* have this on cassette tape. Not even on compact disc. And so you can imagine for your geeky selves if the vinyl is wrapped in aluminium foil and if there are a million inserts or not. I would think not but I’m just a sour grape.

Anyways, (strangely or unstrangely), this 8 track lp is released after the remixes ep. Not that there is anything “wrong” with that. Of course not. Probably to inflict curiosity as to how the originals would sound like. And definitely, I was all edgy with nervous tension when finally the tunes unleash.

The guitar playing is anything but phenomenal. Provided by Moss Icon hero, Tonie Joy, he also vocalises. A series of pressured mumblings without applying any force. Occasionally he spazzes and freaks out. Like in the chest grabbing ‘Beyond’. Then there is the low bass lines that tend to revolve around my head over and over. While the drumming maintains it’s rhythm in the background yet maintaining a complexity that only most post-rock bands tend to cite.

No, there is no comparison to this musical genius. Take all the best things you love about your old school emo bands of the Gravity sound and mix it up with odd time signatures and technicalities. The end result is a heavy album with mad song structures and it is way rockin’ then you could ever imagine.

The kids have eaten this up like candy. And it’s about time you did too.
