One side of this record says “The Plague Years” on it, but don’t mistake it for a Welcome the Plague Year single.
You will not get any screamo on this record at all. Just hardcore. Honest, angry, hardcore. The Deathskulls are
tight and rock. They are also quite funny, name-checking themselves and mentioning that they are from Southend on
Sea before they get the music going. Also they are “taking it back to the old school”. If taking it back to the
old school means writing 5 quickfire and explosive tracks of angry hardcore punk, then that’s exactly what they
do. I have a 10″ somewhere by Gordon Solie Motherfuckers and used to have an LP by United Super Villains. I guess
it’s that type of music, so I hope you are able to make use of that reference point. Just pissed off, shouting,
men. Shouting. Doing songs called “Essex Style”. This is rough, tough, and damn good. It made me want to kick
something in but I have a cold, so I won’t, because I’ll hurt my foot. I hope this band spits and fights the
people watching when playing live.
Wives of Seth (ex-Tribute OMG OOP emo!!!11) only do 3 tracks. That blast. The singer is going all like waargghhh and the guitars are going da-da-da-da-da-da, I guess there is some trace of something like Born Against going on in here, but overall it is just frantic, powerful hardcore done very well. I don’t know what they are singing about though because they don’t give lyrics. There’s this weird bit where they have a rain sound effect and some acoustic guitars. Dashboard Confessional loving pansies.
Tight as fuck split showing off the good side of UK hardcore.
