I anxiously loaded the CD in my player not quite knowing what to expect. To my delight The Explosion struck a chord with me. Snotty vocalled melodic punk rock the way its meant to be. The album came out on Jade Tree I believe, and they’ve been “loaned” out to Revelation for this 5 track EP. And its all over in under 9 minutes.
Opening track “Dotted Lines” starts things off nicely. Fast paced punk rock. Gruff vocals. Melodic riffing. Great powerful tunes. What else is there to say? “Blue” is really melodic yet has a hard edge and a bit more of a UK punk rock sound to it. I think its my favourite of the five songs. Makes me want to jam. I have to say I really like the vocals on this track in particular, although they are great all round as well. “Safety Belt” is more of the same great punk rock. “E.X.P.L.O.S.I.O.N” is just good clean fun, and I think in a live setting this band could even get an old timer like me jumping around down the front. Crazy I know. But true. Final track “TurnAround” is awesome in a emo-punk way. It really reminds of an old HWM song, but I’m not sure which one now.
I’m definately going to have to track down the full length. If its anything like as good as this, I know it’ll be great. This EP left me wanting more more more. Full marks to Revelation for putting this little beauty out. Nice one.
