The First Step - Open Hearts And Clear Minds - CD (2004)

Labels: Livewire
Review by: Damien Mills

Some will say boring by the book sXe hardcore by numbers, some will say if it ain’t broke, you can’t fix it.

The First Step is a band from over in the U.S of A in a Bridge Nine-but-without-the-dyed-black-spock-cuts vein, harking back to In My Eyes and Ten Yard Fight and stuff like that I guess. It’s pretty good though, not very original I suppose but it almost seems pointless to comment on something like that when reviewing these bands, as I dont imagine perfect innovative musicality is top of thier checklist when writing the songs. This music is more about the message and soul, which is fine with me, and it has plenty of both. The lyrics suffer in the same way as the music in being fairly predictable stuff but if you are into fingerpoints and singalongs this will be right up your colourfully graffitied alley.
