The Jones. Ex-Leatherface. Ex-HDQ. However, lets skip the history lesson and instead focus on one seriously accomplished album; ‘Gravity Blues’. The first album from the no so inspirationally named The Jones (previously known as Fatty Jones; please, someone think of a good name for this band). However, the album itself is far from lacking inspiration. Maybe its just me, but I seem to be able to spot everything that was good about UK punk-rock nestled away in these songs. Whether its the song dynamics that made Leatherface the band they are, or the melodies that made Snuff the band they were (note subtly barbed comment: “were” not “are”) this band have picked up on it, while thankfully steering clear of plagiarism. And its pretty clear through songs such as ‘Someone Call me a Doctor’, ‘Black Hole’ and ‘Wilton Road’ that this band are destined for good things.
Selling this band is always going to be easy. Just flash the “ex-Leatherface” tag around and people will flock to pick this up. Who knows, maybe being “ex-HDQ” means something too. But if you ask me, this band deserve to sell a tonne of records regardless of any past accomplishments.
