First things first; the cover is fucking great. The three Markers fighting it out on four sides (possibly a recreation of one of their wild gigs).
I don’t know what I was expecting but I didn’t think that The Magik Markers were going to sound so hardcore. This is like one of those bands that did stuff on both Vermiform and Kill Rock Stars or a brutal Erase Errata with more guitar throb. The guitar isn’t exactly played, its more beaten and thumped, so the sounds blaring from the amps are more drones rather than mere riffs! There is also a bit of an early Sonic Youth feel as well as some of the classic NY bands such as DNA and Madball.
I wasn’t quite so sure when I first heard this but it’s really grown on me, and when they sound really out of control this record can fucking rock.
