The Mercury Program - s/t - 7

Labels: Boxcar
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Not too easy to describe this sort of quirky, left of center indie / rock, though luckily the piece of paper listing the label’s releases lets me know that I could reference June of 44, who I haven’t heard yet. Basically, it’s sorted of lumbering rock, with meandering drums and dischordant guitars, with slightly frantic, spoken vocals. I’d suggest Native Nod as another band that they share some similarities with. Chris from Reynolds, I reckon you’d like this one, they’re a bit like your band in a way, just not so noisy, and they have a drummer ;o)

Oh, yeah, the piece of paper says that it’s math rock. I think that means it’s sort of very structured or something. Rythmical, that’s for sure – very much that kind of music which you’d gently rock band and forth to live. Anyway, I think math is a fair name, as it’s the kind of stuff that can give you a headache from trying to unravel, they should include a calculator. Intriguing and excellent stuff, I’m gonna investigate June of 44 because of this. Nice grey vinyl and understated packaging too.
