This band really do take the piss.
Really.
Just when you think they can’t get anymore perfect, they go and create something simple, stunning and complete.
If you’ve had the misfortune not to hear this band before, then do so post haste if you’re into indie-rock in any way, shape or form. I still can’t get my head round why these guys aren’t incredibly famous, as they do what bands like Samiam have been doing for years but with yet another layer of absolute panache that can’t really be matched.
This new record is the epitome of the Milwaukees’ tried and tested formula of impeccable, catchy indie-rock songs, but with a couple more elements.
For starters, the production is far beefier than on anything else I’ve heard. They seem to have experimented with time signatures and odd riffs slightly more, but have been careful to keep anything off-kilter within the simple rubric of the melodies.
For a beautiful, atmospheric yet rocking listen, you won’t find a better record this year. Word is bond.
