The Mooney Suzuki - Electric Sweat - LP (2002)

Labels: Gammon
Review by: Luke Younger

What a great name for a record. I thought I was going to hate this, as the whole basis of the Mooney Suzuki stinks of average New York garage boys trying to cash in on a hip movement. Chris Thrash said they were amazing live, but the record was shit. I saw it for a fiver, and wanted to know what it was like to bought it anyway. I think it’s good, although I’m not quite sure why I enjoy listening to it. There’s nothing to make it any better than bands like The Hives or Tight Bro’s From Way Back when (or even Jimi Hendrix, The Animals or The Sonics), but it still has some kind of charm which I can’t quite explain… let’s just say that the first three songs are fucking great, tracks five and six are good, eight is alright and the rest I can take or leave. Simple really, now I’m going to listen to the Jam. Ha!
