The Once Over Twice - Special Moments To Detonate Themselves - CD (2004)

Labels: In At the Deep End
Review by: Andy Malcolm

This is quite interesting. It’s like At the Drive In meets the Wildhearts. All chuggy, melodic riffage, pop-metal guitar parts, and shouted vocals that

combine with smoother harmonies, maybe they have ginger afros or something. Not that the music is that bad or anything. I mean, At the Drive In meets the

Wildhearts is a pretty fair combination of styles, you could do a lot worse, e.g. Therapy? crossed with Mineral. Crikey. The music is pretty catchy and is

extremely well produced, giving it a massive, well polished sound, one that you could dance to live. They probably should get support slots for Million Dead

or something like that, I bet that’d be a very enjoyable show. The music makes me tap my toes or nod my head, there are nice big thick basslines that drive

the music on and give it it’s power and loudness, but the vocals don’t do much for me at all. Like there are bits where the guy is bellowing and there is no guitars, just drums. That’s pretty rubbish. And the fourth track is really awful. Apart from that though, this is all solid, fun rock, dancey post-hardcore / rock music

that will appeal to a good number of people. I can’t really see myself ever listening to this again now that I have reviewed it mind you. Ex-Mad at the Sun!
