The Parkinsons - Streets Of London - 7

Labels: Fierce Panda
Review by: Luke Younger

No doubt some of you will have heard of this portuguise 4 peice, who are caught up in the “nu-garage rokk” phenomenon. I saw the Parkinsons recently at Reading, and I was really fucked, but I thought they put on an entertaining show even though I couldn’t remember what they sounded like at all. So I thought I’d get this 7″, and give it a listen.

Truth being, this 7″ is not bad, but I find it baffling that people are comparing this to the Stooges and MC5 because the Parkinsons play really melodic punk rock which is more in line with a band like UK Subs! ‘Bedsit City’ is a pretty good song, and features some snotty punk rock vocal action which is always good in my opinion. But listening to this I just can’t help but feel that if Argy Bargy weren’t a bunch of fat skinheads from Watford, and looked like members of Ikara Colt and the Parkinsons they’d be in the Face as the new cool sensation. Which would be something readers, I’ll tell you that!
