The ever productive Pine have teamed up here with Italy’s violent emos, La Quiete to give us all a very enjoyable little 7″ treat. The Pine have one song, and I’d have to say this is the best thing I have heard by them since the second album. The song is called “Junkyard” and it spirals around wonderfully with their big messy wall of distorted guitars and Roger’s ever distinct vocals. The immense bass is ever-present, warm and driving, focusing the song to perfection, whilst the cluttered guitars crash and dive in that familiar heartbreaking style that the band have oh so nailed. I have not yet been able to get into the latest Pine LP for some reason, I think maybe the band are developing a bit and maybe their next full length release will be back up at the peaks that first two records reached. In the meantime, songs like this will keep me more than satisfied. Stunning.

La Quiete dish out two songs. On the first song they flail away melodically at a pace with their frantic emo violence whilst the wrenched vocals are screamed at the top of lungs, and everyone bumps into each other. The first song is called “Greyskull” and it’s totally killer, keeping the groove going at all times. “Theme for A Secret Garden” is an instrumental that builds up with a tonne of intensity and it’s pretty damn good, though it would have been even better with vocals.
