The Rapture - Mirror - LP (2000)

Labels: Gravity
Review by: Pete Burn

Well, it’s the first Gravity release in a while, and as expected it sounds like nothing you would either expect or imagine. I think Gravity threw a number of people off the case a long time ago, but those are the people who are not willing to let something evolve and form a category defying any description. The Rapture certainly cannot be pigeonholed easily, I can only say that the sound and packaging is very New Wave with a definite influence from bands like Suicide, P.I.L. and Television. Vocally it is reminiscent of that bratty, breathless style employed by a band like Angel Hair.

I hear these guys have an LP coming out on Sub Pop, I look forward to hearing more songs as good as ‘Mirror’, but this will definitely be too ‘arty’ for most people to handle
