The Reputation - s/t - CD (2002)

Labels: Initial Records
Review by: Ian Cavell

Elizabeth Elmore, singer/song-writer with the now defunct Sarge, thankfully resurfaces with a new band, a new label and a new batch of songs inspired by loneliness, disappointment, disingenuous encounters and more than stab of bitterness. The superlative song writing is still very much in the fore, and if you liked Sarge then chances are the Reputation will be your kind of thing. Very much your kind of thing. For starters, musically, this isn’t far removed from the melancholic yet undeniably catchy music that endeared us all to Sarge. Sure there is a leaning towards a more rockier edge on some songs and a willingness to experiment with some different instruments, but the essential components have hardly changed. This means lonely odes to broken relationships wrapped up in one finely crafted album of musical perfection.
