The Swarm - Old Blue Eyes Is Dead - 7

Labels: No Idea Records
Review by: Nadia Almashoor

This band needs no introduction at all. And if you haven’t heard of them, then that’s too bad then. I’m not going into dive into who they are. “Featuring ex members of so and so…” and what nots. It’s all been said too many times and obviously you haven’t been paying enough attention to Collective Zine.*Aherm*

There used to be this advert on television once upon a time ago. It was about air refresheners shaped like mushrooms. And it had this middle aged couple going “It works as good as it looks.” I wish I could say that for this record. The packaging is just remarkably superb. Enveloped red vinyl wrapped with glossied paper that contains band photos, lyrics etc. 5 brand new tracks and a cover by a band called Go! and it’s called “Just Say Go!” So here we go.

It’s all very fast. Charging. Angry. Especially ‘November First”. It just breaks down and makes me go weak in the knees. And that goes for the rest of the tracks. The very typical raaa…metal riffs, slow down, cymbal cymbal… jud jud… jud jud…waaah na na na na…scream…roaaar…stop. *Sigh* (No, there’s no sighing! It’s me!) Vocals are more polished with a new line up and all but other than that, it’s just too expected. Predictable. Typical. And unfortunately, they didn’t give the same impact as they did with Parasitic Skies or the split with Morser.

But fans would appreciate this. No doubts. And I’m sure this is already in the hands of many.
