The Thing open up my fascination with all things in the Scandinavian countries to a dangerous level. This absolute stomper of a record is just fucking awesome, whether you’re a jazz fan or not. The thumping cover of “Art Star” on the a-side starts off like some weird Skatalites track before blasting out with some extreme Naked City noise (complete with blast beats and sax destruction). Miles ahead of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs original in every aspect. The b-side is a bee-bop bumper with enough thumps to please even the stuck-in-their-ways metalhead. Incidentally this single is a lot more fun than Mats Gustafsson’s recent collaboration with Loren Connors and Sonic Youth.
