This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb - The Black Panther Party - 7

Labels: Arkham
Review by: Andy Malcolm

I don’t know much about This Bike is a Pipe Bomb, but I know they are DIY and sincere as a bastard, and that’s good enough for me, as they bounce their way through 5 tracks of rawly produced music here. It sounds pretty much like they made a tape in their bedroom and then mastered it direct to vinyl, and it’s so damn endearing that I can’t help but enjoy it. Opening track, “The Black Panther Party” really creates the right mood with it’s straight forward melodies, and additional instrumentation (mouth organ?!), and its personal / politcal lyrics. If you are desperate for a simple comparison then I would say that they sound like a pop punk version of Lovesick because they have a similar sound, and both bands just strike me as being ethically dead on, and DIY as fuck. And that’s pretty much what you get from this whole 7inch single.

i’m not trying to bring nobody down, i’m just sayin our fight ain’t over yet. oh yeah… today it is beautiful

Right on!
