Labels: Equal Vision
Review by: Tom Sloan
Here’s some music probably labelled as “emo’, but in stark reality is glorified nu-metal, out on Equal Vision. This Day Forward do the whole nu-metal with melodic bits style that is very popular at the moment, and as a result I would site Funeral For a Friend as the obvious reference. My problem with the style is that I really don’t get a feeling of any passion or energy form the music. Sure, they can go between heavy (and dull, might I add) riffing to surprisingly tuneful and lighter moments, but still no energy”¦no emotion. Just some slightly ambiguous and deep appearing lyrics and slick production, just to suck the life even further out of the sound. If I was going to get overly cynical and opinionated I would probably level some scathing and very “scene’ accusation at a band like this, but being slightly more reserved and considered, I would just end by saying this c.d. bored the hell out of me, and save a couple of nice melodies either side of the generic riffs, should have nothing to interest a reader of this review.
