Review by: Russell Opie
Emo band name. Emo album title. Emo music? Well sort of I suppose. Emo-rock at least. And its not bad emo-rock for once. Ages ago, I got into (and subsequently out of) the whole Deep Elm revolution thing within about a month. I got very bored, very quick. It completely put me off the whole shenanigans for about a year, but this I actually like. Six tracks of emotional indie-rock that are also somewhat melodic.
Track one is probably one of the best on here and probably the most emotional and melodic of the lot. I would liken this band to the fantastic Sunfactor, but probably not quite as punchy. Also it has certain equivalences with Pop Unknown, maybe even Elliott. The music is generally good and while I like this on the whole, unfortuantely the lyrics are somewhat predictable.
Comes with obligatory emo inlay pictures :
* rusty 1920’s kitchen scales
* cut throat razors
* window frames
* completely abstract things that you can’t tell what they are
* deserted street
* windmills on the horizon
I gave this a 7 but if you love the Deep Elm style, then I’m sure you will look on this with even fonder eyes.
