Trinity Test - Waiting For The Rebirth - CD (2003)

Labels: self released
Review by: Alex Deller

I remember buying ‘Petitioning The Empty Sky’ back when I was in college, and being absolutely blown away by the sheer insanity of the music I was hearing, a blend of sonic chaos the type of which I’d never heard before. Fast forward. It has been six or seven years since then. Much water has passed under the bridge. Bands like Converge, Botch and Discordance Axis have released many great records since my college days, and I have been progressively wowed. On the inevitable flipside, I have also heard a great many bands who seem to have done nothing more than hang onto those bands’ collective coattails. Shit like Skycamefalling and Poison The Well that I just can’t stomach. Trinity Test, unfortunately, fall into this latter category. Their noise is passable enough, but offers nothing new to the fray whatsoever. They are hardcore kids weaned on Slayer and Dimmu Borgir, or vice versa. They chug and mosh and throw in a variety of discordant scales and solos to demonstrate not only their “˜craziness’ but also the fact that they expect you to put your neck and shoulders out of joint when trying to get tough and dancing along without your shirt on. As well as screaming, bellowing and proffering tested speed-metal licks they try (and fail) to incorporate impromptu scat and sung parts to demonstrate diversity and an eclectic nature. It doesn’t really work that well. Maybe I’m wrong and these kids’ll have a record out on Relapse in the next year or two. I don’t care. Because to me this is so average it may as well not even exist.
