Tubers - s/t - LP (2005)

Cut free from the trappings of any particular style or sound, this one crept in through an unlocked door, rifled around for a while and snuck out of 2005 before many of us had even noticed. Theirs is a rough-sounding, homespun brand of punk that stomps around in uninhibited fashion, letting loose untamed guitarplaying and urgent, yelpy vocals, bringing to mind what might’ve happened if the Lapse had gone and pushed their energy levels through the roof. The whole thing has this wide-open, booming feel to it, the sound of three guys rocking out in a bare room with the tape running and the floorboards shaking underfoot. The result is something strangely pure “” a rich, earthy listen that suggests making this music gives these guys the same hearty satisfaction they might get from raising their own roof or tending crops they’d planted, and with that kind of feeling in tow you can’t help but know you’ve got a genuine winner on your hands. Absolutely corking.
